Description: | Please come and join us for a choral workshop on 22 February 2025 at: Chadderton Reform Club Middleton Road Chadderton OL9 0LG Please note – The room we are using is an upstairs room with no lift access. Cost – £15 per person (£20.00 inc lunch) NB. Scores can be hired on the day for an additional £2 if required NB. Where the work splits into parts, please sing what you would normally sing – Ie 1st or 2nd as indicated. Parking – . Free parking is available at the rear of the building. Please ensure that you do not use spaces marked for the Health Centre next door or in the grounds of Asda Supermarket. There is further parking available to the rear of Chadderton Town Hall nearby. If travelling by Metrolink, the nearest stop is Westwood - which is approx. 15 mins walk away or 3 stops on the 59 bus towards Middleton. Lunch on the day - A meat and potato or cheese and onion pie lunch will be available on the day at an additional cost of £5.00. Please indicate on the booking form if this is required. Please feel free to bring your own lunch if preferred. Musical Director Tom Newall British conductor, Tom Newall, has established a successful freelance career in the UK and beyond He founded the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra in 2014 to give young professional musicians experience in a high-quality ensemble, helping to bridge the gap between a player’s studies and professional orchestras. Tom is also very active as an opera conductor. Recent highlights have included Macbeth, La Bohème, The Magic Flute, A Masked Ball and The Turn of the Screw with Leeds Youth Opera, Cosi fan Tutte with Flatpack Music, Die Fledermaus with Fulham Opera and two premieres with Manchester Opera Project. In Summer 2018, he made his debut at Buxton International Festival conducting The Orphans of Koombu. Highlights of the 2022/23 season include co-creating and conducting a new opera ‘The Light Princess’ with director Sophie Gilpin at Leeds Conservatoire, and a busy choral season covering Handel Dixit Dominus, Stravinsky Symphony of Psalms, Mendelssohn Elijah, Haydn Creation and Brahms Requiem. Tom is currently Music Director for both Salford and Congleton Choral Societies. Soloist – David Cane We are delighted to welcome our very own talented M.D. as our soloist for this event. He is very much looking forward to our performance on 6th April 2025 at the RNCM in Manchester. David began singing in Leicester Cathedral choir aged 8. He studied for his undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge where he sang as a choral scholar in the King’s College Chapel Choir. David completed his postgraduate studies in Vocal Performance at the RNCM under the tutelage of Peter Wilson. David has been directing choirs and teaching singing, piano and music theory for just under 10 years. In 2022, David completed a PhD in Musicology at the RNCM, supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, on the stage works of Benjamin Britten Accompanist – Duncan Robertson Duncan is our regular accompanist at Oldham Choral Society and we are pleased that he is able to join us for this event. He is Director of music at Oldham Hulme Grammar school and studied music at both the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and the University of Aberdeen. Duncan has a robust skill set which includes piano accompaniment, rehearsal pianist and conductor as well as vocal coaching and music education. |
